The role will be responsible for evaluating the risk of inbound business, determining its acceptance, and ensuring compliance before proceeding. Additionally, the position will manage renewals and work to achieve a high percentage of business retention through strong relationships and excellent service.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow through on renewal of existing business to achieve retention above 85% of the renewal business in the assigned portfolio.
  • Ensure strict compliance with cash and carry guidelines, effect cancellation for policies not paid up within agreed timelines and submit debt collection reports as required.
  • Ensure debt collection and adherence to credit control policy by all in the team.
  • Pursue and collaboratively prepare/acquire competitive business quotations and follow up the same with the marketer until the prospective business is secured and correctly underwritten.
  • Ensure proper underwriting parameters are followed in risk assessment and risk acceptance.
  • Prepare and dispatch underwriting documents and policy documents within the set TATS and communicate to intermediaries on confirmation of policy documentation receipt, endorsements, and others.
  • Continually review the performance of accounts/products and advise the supervisor on any concerns with a view to remedy in a timely manner.
  • Engage with existing intermediaries and handle their queries while ensuring accuracy in both written and spoken communication.
  • Liaise with the Reinsurance section regarding risks requiring Facultative RI placements and special Treaty Considerations.
  • Ensure that there is a balance and no gap between the sales and the underwriting processes in the execution of duties for smooth departmental growth.
  • Ensure adherence to all sales, underwriting and compliance guidelines for all business engagements including the TCF and AML.
  • Ensure that all customer service matters are handled effectively including but not limited to; timely delivery/communication of quotations, claims feedback, documentation, commissions payment etc.
  • Participate in preparation of monthly reports on business retention and premium collection efforts and achievements.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Insurance or business degree
  • Progress in ACII/IIK
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good customer service, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Insurance principles and practice
  • Expert knowledge of claims processing
  • Well versed in local legislature that impacts various insurance and policies
  • Seasoned knowledge of industry practice with respect to knock-for-knock agreements
